 Higher capacity recordable/rewritable media with the capacity per disk of 6 or more CD-R's is aimed to address demands for a reliable, long life, cross platform compatible media. This media is capable of handling large databases, digital photography, audio and video storage and other applications where large disk capacity and instant access to any point in the media are required. Drives supporting these standards are designed to read DVD-ROM, DVD Video 5, 9 10 and newer, Audio CD, CD-ROM, Video CD, CD-R and CD-RW discs.
Three groups of drive manufactures have evolved to address such large capacity DVD sized recordable/rewritable drives and media. Each of these 3 groups proposes respectively, the DVD-RAM, discussed below, the DVD-R/RW and the DVD+R/RW formats.

CMC obtains the requisite licenses for the production of such media formats as their specifications and standards are finalized and the latest drives reach the marketplace.
DVD-RAM
In connection with this strategy, in mid-1999, CMC initiated production of large capacity rewriteable media with the introduction of the DVD-RAM rewritable format, initially available in 2.6GB single sided, with or without caddy, and in a 5.2GB size. DVD-RAM 2.6 and DVD-RAM 5.2 are generally available for immediate shipment from our US warehouses as Hotan branded fully packaged product. DVD-RAM 4.7 became available in January 2002 and DVD-RAM 9.4 will be available in Q1 2002.
OEM Programs are readily available for CMC DVD-RAM's.
